Aircat’s design philosophy is about stability, space and safety with an emphasis on superb handling at speed boats over 5.0 metres. We set about designing the 5.25 metre long 5000 model prototype and construction took place in a specialist alloy boat construction facility in Napier, New Zealand . The resulting prototype has met every expectation and is a superb example of a stable, great handling boat with the space of a mono hull 6.0 metres or more. AirCat's philosophy is to design and test prototypes with careful evaluation before settling on the production version.
The Aircat 625 has been designed without thought for compromise or ease of production. It is amazingly stable and rides like it is on a cushion of air even in the most severe sea conditions.
The FatCat 5000 Prototype is set to pounce.
In the words of world renowned power boat journalist, Barry Thompson “ Wow, what a ride ! That is the best way to describe how I felt after coming off a rough Auckland Harbour from reviewing the FatCat 5000 Prototype“.
Barry was super impressed with how the Aircat protoype turned so flat in rough water while taking on minimal spray. Power cats depending on their hull shape can have a distinct tendency lean outwards in turns. Not so with the AirCat. Its Flat and stable with absolutely minimal cavitation. (highly unusual for a single engine cat). Its ride at speed is idiot proof and produces a real sense of confidence for the skipper. The AirCat cockpit is a massive 7sqm of workable space. It seems a lot bigger than its 5.25 m would suggest, making it a perfect fishing platform. It has all the usual options such as live bait tanks, wash down pump, underfloor tanks, auto windlass and with ample storage lockers fore and aft. The helm station is wide and provides excellent shelter from the weather with optional seating arrangements. Thanks Barry !
Initially being developed as a centre console a cuddy version will be available too ! For the final production AirCat 625 version currently designed by Roger and Brian, a number of refinements will be implemented including additional length and deepening the cockpit for added crew security.
