Bespoke Kiwi boatbuilder breaks from tradition with first production line

Over the years, the Auckland On Water Boat Show has developed a reputation as a hub for the new releases and innovations of the marine industry this year. As the show approaches, we’ll be highlighting the best-in-show products you can expect to see this year, and the latest and greatest from our exhibitors.

March 5, 2025 By

The addition of production boat line means the New Zealand public can now access models from the boat builder behind custom RIBs for Jimmy Spithill, international superyachts, and others.

Auckland-based boatbuilder, JP CRAFTS, has announced the launch of its first production model, the CODE 9.8.

Since the company’s launch ten years ago, it has worked directly with discerning yachtsmen, superyacht owners and those seeking specialty vessels, to create ultra-high spec boats which ship from its New Zealand base to waters around the world.

With the launch of the CODE 9.8, JP CRAFTS’ signature high-end finishes are now available to the boating public.

“We wanted to create a vessel which maintained the high-performance and high-quality in our DNA, but which we could manufacture efficiently at a more accessible price point,” says JP CRAFTS’ Jonathan Edgar.

“We’re thrilled to introduce this to the New Zealand market. We know Kiwis are the most discerning boat owners out there and we’ve created an ultra-performance RIB to match.”

Since its debut in January, the CODE 9.8 has captured attention on an international scale. It featured as the official Media Vessel at the prestigious Sail GP, showcasing its performance and versatility as it navigated the challenging demands of the event. Additionally, as a support tender, it was sponsored by Southern Spars for superyacht S/Y Sharlou during the NZ Millennium Cup superyacht regatta, further underscoring its robust capabilities.

The CODE 9.8 has a 23 degree deep V plumb bow, with a fully-enclosed console for a comfortable ride suited to New Zealand conditions. Tubes are built into the side deck combing for comfort and extra security and an interior cabin with dayhead, and plush U-shaped seating which converts to a bed, makes this an excellent family day boat ready for wide-ranging excursions. Onboard BBQ area, digital switching and custom software design, and power delivered via a Mercury 600 HP means this is an entertainer’s boat without compromise.

This marks a significant milestone as the Auckland-based company expands from bespoke boat building to offering high-spec production vessels that maintain its hallmark of excellence.

The CODE 9.8 will make its first public debut at the Auckland Boat Show this week, before travelling to captivate attendees at the upcoming Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in Australia.

Whether you’re cruising the coastlines or chasing horizons the CODE 9.8 will be your ultimate companion on the water.
