A landmark celebration: Auckland Boat Show turns 25

Over the years, the Auckland On Water Boat Show has developed a reputation as a hub for the new releases and innovations of the marine industry this year. As the show approaches, we’ll be highlighting the best-in-show products you can expect to see this year, and the latest and greatest from our exhibitors.

January 13, 2026 By

Nowhere does the spectacular innovation, heritage and skill of New Zealand’s marine industry shine through more brightly than at the Auckland Boat Show.

Next summer the event will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a marine extravaganza that is a must-do event for anyone interested in boating.

Centred on Jellicoe Harbour and the Viaduct Events Centre from 5-8 March 2026, 150 exhibitors plus 200 boats on sea and land will be on display for the four-day event.

“People come to see what is new, to shop for a new boat, to explore the latest from the marine world, and most importantly because they love everything about boats and marine and just want to be part of it,” says Stacey Cook of NZ Marine.

“You’ll find just about every type of boat, from trailer boats and amphibious boats to sports fishers, custom New Zealand builds, and the finest of luxury motor yachts and sailing vessels for sale and charter.”

“This includes more than 30 boats available then and there for sea trial, and luxury charter boats that you won’t see anywhere else in New Zealand.”

The first Auckland Boat Show run by NZ Marine was held in 1999. Today it has evolved as an event that only celebrates New Zealand innovaton and success, it hosts a diverse range of exhibitors across a range of themes including marine careers, sustainability and fishing. There are also special zones for high-end charters and sea trials.

“More than 500 brands will be represented at the 2026 show,” says Stacey. “This includes Asia Pacific region premiers and world-leading technology releases sitting alongside home-grown success stories, and all-important sustainability messages.”

Throughout the show’s history the defining features of industry ownership, a focus on marine excellence and innovation, and boats on display in the water have stayed the same, says Stacey. “It’s what sets NZ Marine’s event apart and why it’s so incredibly popular.”

The next Auckland Boat Show takes place from Thursday 5 – Sunday 8 March 2026 at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. With more than 1.3km of boats on the water it focuses on supporting industry growth and sustainability and features zones for careers, sustainability, high-end charters, and sea trials, all with interactive activations and educational pieces. www.aucklandboatshow.co.nz. Tickets go on sale 24 October 2025.

The Auckland Boat Show is part of Moana Auckland, New Zealand’s Ocean Festival which is back for its third edition in 2026, bringing a fun, ocean-inspired celebration to Auckland’s waterfront. Running from 28 February to 15 March 2026, Moana Auckland will deliver a unique line-up of events – including the Auckland Wooden Boat Festival, Z Manu World Champs and Auckland Boat Show – which capture the spirit of summer, the power of the ocean and the cultural heartbeat of Tāmaki Makaurau. The festival is an Auckland Council Event, delivered by council-controlled organisation Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU), the region’s cultural, events and destination agency. Like many in New Zealand’s marine industry, Smuggl Like many in New Zealand’s marine industry, Smuggler Marine is a family-owned business which has evolved and grown alongside the Auckland Boat Show.

Smuggler Marine, as it was rebranded in 2004, started life in 1986 as David Pringle Boatbuilders, mainly building yachts including some of the iconic Ross 930s and Elliot 1050s that are still sailing today.

In 2004 the business moved into powerboats and created its very first Smuggler.

“That’s when we started focusing on the boat show market,” says Pauline Pringle. “Boat shows were the way we made sure everyone knew what a Smuggler was.”

“The Auckland Boat Show is in a great location, high end, people are there to buy boats, and it’s full of opportunity for our business. We love the customers, the variety of people and exhibitors and the end of summer vibe.”
