Auckland Boat Show exhibitor, Altex Yacht & Boat Paint will this year sponsor the Auckland to Tauranga Yacht Race (A2T).
Given the moniker of Altex Yacht and Boat Paint 2023 Auckland to Tauranga Yacht Race, the event, which starts at 4.00pm on the 31st of March 2023 from Westhaven, has been raced since 1921.
First raced as a mechanism to attract yacht owners from Auckland to Tauranga, early fleets to contest the race were formed of Mullet boats with winners rewarded with a gold cup. The 2023 edition of the race will have seven divisions; two monohull divisions, shorthanded and singlehanded divisions, multihulls, classics and cruising.
The race has welcomed Altex Yacht & Boat Paint as the naming rights sponsor for the second year in a row. Keeping racing vessels slick, Altex Yacht & Boat Paint quality paints has been endorsed by the race.
In a new initiative between the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club and Tauranga Yacht & Powerboat Club, this Altex Auckland to Tauranga race will be the third race in a new series of four coastal races known as the Blue Water Championship.
