ZF to Present new driveline solutions at Auckland On Water Boat Show

September 6, 2019 By aowb

ZF to introduce its newest transmission, the ZF 400A, at the Auckland on Water Boat Show. Integrated into the ZF 400A is SUPERSHIFT2, the latest in shifting technology from ZF. These technologies reinforce ZF’s position as a leader in marine driveline systems

ZF will reinforce its position as a leader in marine driveline systems at next month’s Auckland on Water Boat Show showcasing its newest transmission, the ZF 400A, and the very latest in shift technology, the SUPERSHIFT2.

The brand new ZF 400A marine transmission family further expands ZF’s portfolio of innovative driveline solutions for seagoing vessels.

The model series is rated up to 735 kW (1000hp) and covers a range of possible transmission ratios and layout configurations.

As the ZF 400A can be installed in a down angle, integrated V, remote V or parallel configuration (also available for work vessels), it offers shipyards, shipbuilders, naval architects and fleet owners great flexibility when designing or retrofitting motorised ships, such as yachts or fishing boats.

With a power density of up to 0.3195 kW/rpm (0.4282hp/rpm), the ZF 400A is the perfect fit for a broad range of recreational and commercial applications.

The transmission family is already meeting the most important standards of international classification organisations. Additional approval type tests can be arranged according to customer demand.

SUPERSHIFT2 sets new benchmark in shifting technology.
Integrated into the ZF 400A is the very latest in shifting technology from ZF, the SUPERSHIFT2, which upon its debut in Oceania 12 months ago, set a new benchmark in delivering superior performance and comfort to operators.

With its quick shifting, high levels of smoothness and control and enhanced product design, the SUPERSHIFT2 enables transmissions to react instantaneously to shift input circuits.

Unlike other commercially available marine transmissions, ZF’s SUPERSHIFT2 negates the need for an additional hydraulic circuit through its enhanced clutch pack configuration and efficient hydraulic system, creating a simple and robust design.

This results in fast shifting response and smooth gear changes even at low speed.

Customers can also order an optional embedded electronic control unit for better proportional valve adjustment, granting even smoother shifting and trolling.

A smart alert feature helps users schedule maintenance appointments predictively.

The ZF 400A series is furthermore compatible with an e-motor (installed in a sandwich configuration), allowing the vessel to cruise locally emission-free. This reduces fuel consumption, noise and pollution.

Like many in New Zealand’s marine industry, Smuggl Like many in New Zealand’s marine industry, Smuggler Marine is a family-owned business which has evolved and grown alongside the Auckland Boat Show.

Smuggler Marine, as it was rebranded in 2004, started life in 1986 as David Pringle Boatbuilders, mainly building yachts including some of the iconic Ross 930s and Elliot 1050s that are still sailing today.

In 2004 the business moved into powerboats and created its very first Smuggler.

“That’s when we started focusing on the boat show market,” says Pauline Pringle. “Boat shows were the way we made sure everyone knew what a Smuggler was.”

“The Auckland Boat Show is in a great location, high end, people are there to buy boats, and it’s full of opportunity for our business. We love the customers, the variety of people and exhibitors and the end of summer vibe.”
